Ajimobi presents N 165.5bn budget for 2016

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Tuesday presented N 165.5 billion appropriation bill for 2016 to the state House of Assembly.

A total of N 93.2 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N 72.3 billion for the capital expenditure for the fiscal year.

The Governor who tagged the appropriation bill “Budget of Renew Commitment” declared is targeted at (1) Agriculture for food security, employment generation (2) Education and Human capital development (3) Infrastructure development and (4) Peace and Security so as to make the state conducive for all and sundry and consolidate on his administration’s efforts in repositioning the state.

Ajimobi highlighted some areas such as adoption of zero based budgeting, restructuring of public service and restructuring of the ministries into 13 among others.

Ajimobi noted that the state has targeted N 48 billion naira from the federal allocation for the year 2016, while all efforts are on top gear to increase the revenue base of the internally generated revenue to N 76.7 billion for the year.

He explained that substantial amount of money from the capital expenditure would be used to open more roads in Ibadan, the state capital and complete some major roads in other geo-political zones of Oyo, Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun.

He also informed the house that certain amount of money would also be used to build more classrooms and rehabilitate more in a bid to increase the performance of the students.

He urged the assembly to support his administration in a bid to ensure full implementation of the budget.

The Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Micheal Adeyemo urged the governor to include the judiciary saying the house was ready to ensure quick passage of the bill.

He urged the ministries, MDAs to cooperate with the stakeholders in ensuring full implementation of the budget.

In her remarks shortly after the presentation, Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Appropriation and Budget, Hon. Bolanle Agbaje commended the governor’s presentation which she said would help to solve the challenges facing the people of the state and the state in general.
