The All Progressives Congress Action Group in Ekiti State has asked the Ministerial nominees from the South West to promote the ideals of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo whose political thoughts remain one of the driving pillars of APC in the region.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Segun Dipe, the group said the ministerial nominees should particularly work harder to ensure the total return of the entire South West to the progressive fold.

At present, Ondo and Ekiti are controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

The AG also described as unwarranted reports that some members of the party were writing petitions against the Ministerial nominees from the region. “At this point, it is unwarranted for anyone or group to write petitions against any of the Ministerial nominees. The nominees deserve the full support of all APC.

“We oppose any attempt to scuttle the screening process of the ministerial nominees. We are aware that the state governor Mr. Ayodele Fayose has said he would support the Presidential nominee, Dr John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

“We in APC-AG do not trust Mr Fayose’s words. However, we believe that he is not in any vantage position to stop the nominee from scaling the hurdles.”

The group added that the greatest challenge before Ekiti people now is to retrieve the state from a bad administrator who has brought ridicule to the state and her people through his self-serving economic policies. The greater task of all conscious party members in Ekiti State is to prevent the current decline of the state in the hands of the PDP.

“The AG wishes to see a united APC built on public trust. We want to see APC in Ekiti driven by the people. We want to see a restructured party machinery that can win elections and overwhelm the current state of anomie in our land.

“We congratulate the Ministerial nominee from Ekiti State and other states in the South West and at the same time urge them to avoid the pitfall of being used against their leaders, the Yoruba people and her interests as others have been used in the past to their own detriment.

“We call on the Ekiti people to see the greater challenge of retrieving Ekiti from her current political and economic deficit as a task that must be fulfilled.”
