The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has charged Nigerians to be vigilant and resist attempts by anybody or group of persons to cause disunity and truncate the nation’s democracy.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, who gave the charge in a statement in Abuja, said the party was reacting to developments that followed the Nov. 16, Anambra governorship election and the call for its conciliation by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“APC is trying to use Anambra to test its evil machination against the entire country,” Metuh said, adding that the party has hatched a heavily funded plot to use the instrumentality of blackmail, lies and propaganda to discredit the electoral system.

The party spokesman added that it was on record that the APC since its formation had not won any election.

“Having realised that it has no chance of winning in 2015 and equally scared of losing states currently under its unfortunate control, the APC is now seeking every means to cast doubts in the minds of Nigerians on the electoral system,’’ Metuh said.

He maintained that the Anambra election had once again shown that the PDP remained the preeminent party in the state.

He stressed that the PDP put up a credible show during the election in spite of its internal challenges and discordant tunes among members.

“We therefore commend the state chairman and all members of the party in Anambra, including our candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye,” Metuh said.

He maintained that the unfolding events in Anambra had vindicated the PDP`s earlier alert on the plot by the APC to unleash violence and rig the election.
