Côte D’ Voire has accepted a ruling by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea that favoured Ghana in dispute over the location of the maritime boundary separating them.
According to an Ivorian government spokesman, what’s important is to preserve our good neighbourly relations with Ghana.
“And this judgment allows for a definitive demarcation of the maritime boundary,” Bruno Kone said.
Agents, who represented Ghana and Cote D’lvoire in the maritime boundary dispute case, Gloria Akuffo and Adama Toungara, said they accept the judgement on the case.
A joint statement released hours after the Chamber’s judgement made this known on Monday.
The long standing maritime dispute between Ghana and Cote De Voire came to what appears to be a closure after the ruling largely in favour of Ghana.
The Chamber ruled that there has not been any violation on the part of Ghana on Côte de Voire’s maritime boundary.
It further rejected Côte De Voire’s argument that Ghana’s coastal lines were unstable, adding that Ghana had not violated Côte d’Ivoire’s sovereign rights with its oil exploration in the disputed basin in question.
