The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has applauded the initiative of Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra state for being the first state to create a full ministry of Diaspora Affairs.

Dabiri-Erewa who made the commendation when she paid a courtesy call on the governor at the governor office in Awka on Friday, applauded the governor on his achievements that have made the people of Anambra very proud in just less than two years.

She also commended him for his interest in Diaspora matters as being the first governor to establish a diaspora commission and appoint a Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs.

The SSA said that with the population of Anambra indigenes in the Diaspora, there was need for a partnership between her office and the state to attract investors from the Diaspora.

Dabiri-Erewa stressed the need for partnership, saying there are many interested Nigerians in the Diaspora willing to be part of such development.

She expressed satisfaction with the governor’s efforts in providing adequate security needed for investors in the state.

Responding, the governor listed all his efforts geared towards promotion of tourism in the state as an alternative source of generating revenue other than relying on rent and revenue from oil.

Gov. Obiano assured Hon. Dabiri-Erewa that his mission was to make Anambra a first choice investment destination. “My priorities in the state is Diaspora, culture and tourism”, he said.

To this end, Obiano said the state has begun processing its own rice and has a significant number of caves that when developed, can ultimately turn the State into tourist and investors-friendly state.
