The leadership of the national assembly has called off its meeting scheduled to hold at noon on Tuesday.

Yusuf Lasun, deputy speaker of the house of representatives, disclosed this while speaking to journalists at the entrance of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had called the meeting after several calls on the lawmakers to cut short their recess and reconvene.

Lasun said the meeting was called off on Monday morning following the blockade mounted at the entrance of the complex by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Recalled that Senate President Bukola Saraki had summoned an emergency meeting of leaders of both chambers of the national assembly at 12 noon on Tuesday to deliberate on some “crucial issues”.

Bamikole Omisore, an aide of the senate president, also tweeted about the meeting, saying the lawmakers would also meet with Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“NASS leadership will tomorrow meet at noon to consider some national issues. The National Assembly leadership comprises both @NGRSenate and @HouseNGR,” he tweeted.

“It will be followed by another meeting with the leadership of @inecnigeria led by its chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu.”

The meeting was called in the wake of a plea from Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters, who asked the leadership of the national assembly to reconvene and treat pressing issues such as the 2019 elections.
