EFCC clears CCT chairman Danladi Umar on alleged N10m bribe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has exonerated the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Hon Danladi Yakubu Umar, on the alleged N10 million bribed allegation by one AbdulRashid Owolabi.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, EFCC stated that the allegations leveled against Justice Umar were mere suspicious and consequently insufficient to successfully prosecute the offence.

The letter which was signed by Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo, Secretary to the Commission reads:, “kindly recall our correspondence of 5th March, 2015, (reference EFCC/EC/SGF/03/56) with the above subject, please.

“We would like to reiterate the Commission’s position in regard to this matter as earlier communicated to you and stated that the allegations leveled against Justice Umar were mere suspicious and consequently insufficient to successfully prosecute the offence.”

Wednesday’s clearance letter was second, having communicated same on the 5th March,2015 during last of administration of President Goodluck Jonathan through the office of the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation Chief Pius Anyim.

Justice Umar is currently hearing the corruption and false asset declaration by the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

There have being calls from those believed to be loyal to the embattled Senate President for Justice Umar to stand down from Saraki’s trial, himself being a subject of investigation bothering on corruption.

In fact, the upper legislative chamber had summoned the CCT chairman for interrogation over the allegation.

Besides, the Senate, until this afternoon when it bowed to public criticism, the Senate had set in motion machinery to amend the CCT/CCB law in an effort which had received thunderous criticisms from Nigerians.
