The Lagos State Government says its medical experts have been despatched to Otodo-Gbame Community in Ikate, Lekki area of the state to unravel the mysterious disease that killed no fewer than 25 children.

Adeola Salako, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, made this known in an interview the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to Salako, no further death has been recorded since February 10 when the team of epidemiological investigators, led by epidemiologists from the state Ministry of Health, commenced investigation.

She said the ministry responded immediately news about the strange disease was received, adding that the team was despatched to the community on February 10.

She said: “We have already responded as some epidemiologists have been sent to take samples of water and blood from some of the children to know what the cause is.

“The investigation is meant to verify the assertions and the cause of deaths through laboratory investigation of water, throat swabs and blood samples of children with suspected cases and to proffer solutions.”

The yet-to-be-identified disease, which started sometime in January 2016, had brought panic to the community predominantly dominated by the Eguns.

The affected children after contacting the strange ailment, developed rashes, which was similar to the symptom of measles, and died two to three days after.
