Bukar Kyari, a People Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant, has rejected the results of the governorship primary election conducted by the party in the state.

Kyari told newsmen on Sunday in Maiduguri that the exercise was marred by irregularities, saying he had resolved to seek redress in court.

It would be recalled that the Zanna Gadama and Usman Baderi’s faction of the PDP had conducted parallel primaries on Saturday, during which Muhammad Imam defeated Kyari and one other candidate,Muhammad Wakil.

Kyari alleged that there was contempt of court in conducting the election by the Gadama faction, which was not recognized by the court.

He argued that the court recognized Badari as the chairman of the party, wondering why the national secretariat of the PDP conducted the election through the unrecognized faction.

Kyari alleged that he and the other candidate were not furnished with the list of the delegates by the organizers of the election,in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“The exercise is illegal, I reject its outcome and the national leadership of the party should annul the election.
We, as law-abiding citizens, will not indulge in illegalities; we shall seek redress in competent court of law for our rights,” he said.

Wakil, one of the candidate and former Minister of State Works, said they were opposed to the conduct of the election by Gadama’s faction.

He alleged that Gadama’s faction committed contempt of court, dismissing the exercise as “null and void”.

Wakil claimed that the Court of Appeal in Jos had ruled in favour of Badari as the recognized chairman of the party.

In his reaction, Gadama, said they secured a court injunction which ordered that the status quo be maintained.

Gadama insisted that there was no faction, adding that the party had one leadership under his stewardship.

“The national secretariat recognizes only one PDP in Borno, which is the one I am currently heading as a Chairman.
This is why they sent INEC officials and other observers to come and monitor the governorship primary election in the state”.
