Alleged Boko Haram spy arrested in MOPOL barracks

A middle aged man, suspected to be a Boko Haram member was arrested on Monday by men of the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly spying on policemen at the Mobile Police Barracks, Sector 8 in Jos.

The recent incident followed persistent complaints by members of the public on the existence of some strange persons in some parts of Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

Sources told our reporter that the suspect was arrested on Monday while allegedly spying on some policemen undertaking parade rehearsals in preparation for the pulling out ceremony of the state police commissioner, Chris Olakpe.

According to police sources, the presence of the suspect near the parade ground raised the suspicion of those on the parade ground. He was said to have fled when the security operatives attempted to interrogate him.

Apprehension however enveloped the place when the fleeing suspect ran towards the nursery and primary school building located within the barracks, before he was apprehended by some policemen.

The suspects was said to have made another attempt to escape when he was been quizzed but was rearrested. He was said to have been transferred to Anguljos police station for questioning.

He reportedly told his interrogators that he was a Kanuri and had come from Gonori in Gujba Local Government area of Yobe State, believed to be a strong base of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Felicia Anselm, confirmed the arrest, stressing that investigations were on to unravel his mission. “Yes, somebody was arrested, but we are yet to ascertain who he is and his mission. Investigations are still going on,” she said.
