The crisis rocking the PDP took a turn for the worst as the national chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu has resigned as the national chairman.
His resignation took effect immediately.
The embattled chairman in a letter he wrote to the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, noted that due to the party’s defeat in the March 28 presidential election, it has become important for him vacate his position as PDP chairman for peace to reign in the party.
He asked Secondus to take over as acting national chairman in line with the party’s constitution.
Also, it was reliably gathered that President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the chairman of PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Anthony Anenih to resign his office as the BOT chairman, but it is not known whether Anenih has accepted to resign or not.
The National Working Committee, NWC is currently holding a meeting at Wadata Plaza and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh is expected to address the press after the meeting.
The PDP has been enmeshed in crisis since losing the presidential election which held March 28.
The party also lost most of its states especially in the north to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The APC has also snatched the majority number of seat in the two chambers of the National Assembly.
Top members of the party including Governors have been calling on the NWC members to resign their positions for leading the party to its most disastrous outing since 1998.
Metuh had two weeks ago said the crisis of the party was over, at the intervention of President Jonathan.
