Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Joint Venture has lifted the force majeure on gas supplies to NLNG from the Eastern Gas Gathering System (EGGS-1) following repair of a sabotage leak on the line.

The force majeure was declared on August 4, 2015.

The Joint Investigation Team, which visited the site, found that the leak was caused by a crude theft connection, apparently installed by people who thought the line was transporting crude oil.

SPDC had earlier in the week announced multiple spills from its pipeline network in Ikarama oil fields in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

Its spokesman, Joseph Obari, earlier in the week confirmed that seven spill incidents were reported on August 12.

The oil firm deployed a helicopter for aerial surveillance and investigation of the incident.

Residents of Ikarama Community attributed the incident to termination of pipeline surveillance contract by SPDC, which compelled the surveillance guards to withdraw their services.

“Seven spills were reported on the-14 inch Okordia-Rumuekpe pipeline in Ikarama on August 12,” Obari said.

“The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) Joint Venture is finalizing plans for the conduct of a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to the sites.

“JIV is a statutory process of operation, involving SPDC, regulatory agencies, state ministry of environment, police and community representatives, to ascertaining the cause, volume and impact of a spill”, he added.
