The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has withdrawn the provisional clearance given to Peter Obafemi, one of the party’s governorship aspirants for the Ekiti State governorship election by the Screening Appeal Committee.

The party said in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, that Obafemi would not be eligible to participate in the primary to elect its candidate for the Ekiti governorship election.

Obafemi was initially disqualified by the screening committee headed by Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba because of his inability to present his National Youth Service certificate but was later cleared by the Appeal Panel headed by Sen. Mohammed Magoro.

Apart from Obafemi, two other aspirants, who like others paid the mandatory N11m for the race, Sen. Bode Olowoporoku and Bosede Dada were also disqualified.

Ndoma-Egba said Olowoporoku was disqualified on the basis that he did not produce tax clearance and that there was no evidence of court judgement overturning his previous expulsion from the party.

Though he said Olowoporoku later brought a paper on the court matter, he said the committee was unable to “peruse the court order and as therefore asked to take his case to the appeal committee.”

Dada was also accused of not having evidence of payment of membership dues, no West African School Certificate and no production of tax clearance certificate.
