Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Wednesday felicitated with Muslims on this year’s celebration of Eid-el-Maulud and enjoined Nigerians to imbibe the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) which are anchored on love, peaceful coexistence and harmony.

Saraki in a goodwill message to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), signed by his Special Adviser ( Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, said just like the birth of the Holy Prophet in Mecca ushered in a new dawn for humanity, Nigerians should view the occasion of this year’s Maulud Nabiyyi as an opportunity for a new beginning for the country.

He noted that the country has made tremendous progress in terms of security of lives and property since the last celebration and urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to further seek the mercy and protection of Allah for all Nigerians.

Saraki said, “I believe that we will make progress towards the realisation of our shared vision of a strong, united and prosperous nation if our people imbibe the Prophet’s lessons of peace, tolerance, honesty, selflessness, sincerity, justice, equity and peaceful co-existence with others, including fairness to all.”

Saraki reminded Muslims of the life and times of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) which was characterized by series of challenges, but at the end of it all he triumphed, and expressed confidence that Nigeria will soon overcome her challenges.

On his part, Dogara called on Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit of humility, gratitude and charity to one another as demonstrated by the life and times of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the Speaker, Turaki Hassan, in Abuja, Dogara said that the virtues of service and exemplary leadership as demonstrated by the Holy Prophet should guide both leaders and the led on the need to give their all.

He added that giving their all should be in the overall interest of the nation.

“Let me use this occasion to call on us all to reappraise our commitment to the unity and progress of the country as entrenched by our forefathers.

“On our part as lawmakers, we shall continue to come up with legislative intervention that will guarantee a virile and united nation,” he said.

While wishing all Muslims a happy Maulud celebration, Dogara urged the faithful to use the occasion of the Prophet’s birth to reflect on the essential lessons of his life.

The speaker also urged the faithful to pray for continued well-being of the nation.
