The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government for the unconditional release of its leader Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

The Islamic group threatened to organise a mass protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja if their demand is not met after the expiration of the ultimatum.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after a bloody clash between his group and soldiers in Zaria.

A statement by the spokesperson of Sheik Zakzaky’s Life Group of Nigeria, Mallam Bashir Bafara, said: “There are proofs that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has conspired with foreign and internal allies to wipe out the IMN and that was why soldiers were deployed in Zaria to kill our members, while the leader of the movement is still in detention.

“We are calling on President Buhari’s government to release Sheik El-Zakzaky unconditionally within two weeks from now. However, at the expiration of the deadline if he is not released, members of IMN, who include men, women, and children would storm Abuja, the nation’s capital for a peaceful protest. We would not leave until our leader is released,” the statement added.
