South African rapper, Flabba killed by girlfriend

An award-winning South African rapper, Nkululeko Habedi, has been stabbed to death at his home in Johannesburg.

Nkululeko Habedi, who performs under the name Flabba, died at his family home in Alexandra on Monday morning.

Police told the broadcaster eNCA that the 38-year-old’s girlfriend is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Spokeswoman Katlego Mogale said that “A female suspect in her early 30s has been arrested. The incident was reported in the early hours of the morning.”

Flabba was a member of the pioneering hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp which formed in 1996.

Rapper, group member and close friend Siyabonga “Slikour” Metane also confirmed the death early on Monday.

“I just got a call from his family. I will be on my way to his family’s home,” he said.

In 2007, Flabba won best rap album for his solo project Nkuli Vs Flabba at the annual South African Music Awards.

Friends and fans have paid tribute on social media.

Another member of the group and friend Sello “Nemza” Mofokeng took to Facebook to send his condolences.

“Good morning fam … It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the saddest news this morning that one of my brothers, Flabba, has passed away.

“May his soul RIP, he will never be forgotten. Gone too soon with so much potential still. Will always love him. Life is a precious gift and he lived every breath with a full heart!!! ‪#‎RIPLenyora‬ ‪#‎Skwatta4eva‬,” he wrote.
