Suspected thugs set ablaze Ekiti PDP secretariat

The crisis rocking Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) took a new turn on Tuesday as the party’s state secretariat was set ablaze by people suspected to be political thugs.

The arson which was said to have been committed at about 5.30 am on Tuesday, badly affected the office of the Chairman, Makanjuola Ogundipe and the conference Hall of the one-storey building located in along Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti.

Sources said that the fire disaster could have been more disastrous but for the timely intervention of passers-by who alerted the residents of the Area, who later trooped out to put off the raging inferno.

The State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Babayemi, who condemned the act, however said the incident was being investigated by the police.

Babayemi said no arrest has been made, but assured that those behind the criminal act would be made to face music.

Meanwhile, the party has set up its Governorship Campaign team to advance and sell the candidacy of former Governor Ayodele Fayose for the June 21 election.

A statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti Tuesday by the party’s State Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively, Dr Tope Aluko and Pastor Kola Oluwawole, named an Ado Ekiti based businessman cum politician, Dipo Anisulowo, as the Director General of the campaign outfit.

Other principal officers include: Barr Owoseeni Ajayi, who had hitherto served as the Director General , is now the Deputy Director General, while a journalist and Publisher, Gboyega Aribisogan, is appointed as the Chairman, Publicity .

A retired Permanent Secretary, Modupe Alade, is the Secretary while former Chairman, Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, is the Treasurer of the outfit.

The party also thanked President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the Party, Adamu Mua’zu for allowing internal democracy in the party, particularly with the conduct of primaries in the State to select the candidate.

The leaders praised the aggrieved aspirants for their resolve to use party’s machinery in resolving crisis emanating from the conduct of primary election in the State.
