Former Nigerian President and former chairman, Board of Trustees of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, Olusegun Obasanjo, today tore his membership card of the PDP in the presence of some guests and immediately announced his exit from the party.

The guests, who are leaders of the PDP from Obasanjo’s ward around his former residence in Ita Eko, where he registered, visited the ex-president to express their concern with his recent utterances against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and what he considered as the President’s role in the postponement of the general elections from February to March.

But the Ebora Owu as the ex-president is popularly called shocked them with his action.

NEW MAIL reported that Obasanjo, on Saturday, said that President Goodluck Jonathan had a ‘grand plan’ of manipulating the presidential polls in his favour and that the president may unleash violence on the country if he did not win.

He further alleged that Jonathan was not interested in a free and fair elections. He said the president was more interested in perpetuating himself in office beyonf May 29 by ‘hook or crook’.
