The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Sunday hinted that the Senate would wave the support of at least two senators from the state of a ministerial nominee if the nominee performed well in other areas of the screening expected to commence on Tuesday.

In a series of tweets on his Twitter handle on Sunday, Saraki said the tradition of having two senators back a ministerial nominee would not be sacrosanct this time around.

He equally said the screening would not be about who the senators liked or not adding that the Senate was willing to entertain questions from Nigerians to be posed to the nominees.

Below are the tweets: “#MinisterialScreening won’t be about who Senators like or don’t like, will be based on constitution and assessment of capacity to perform.

“#MinisterialScreening is serious business, Senators are aware of that especially as they know Nigerians and the world will be watching live.

“The tradition of two Senators having to endorse a #MinisterialNominee is not sacrosanct and can be waived if a nominee passes other criteria.

“Our constitutional responsibility is to ensure the nominees are fit enough to give President @MBuhari the support he requires.

“Senators of #8Senate will uphold the constitution of Nigeria by putting Nigeria first regardless of our personal relationship with Nominees.

“Pls keep your questions for #MinisterialScreening coming. We want Nigerians to be part of the screening. Send questions to @NGRSenate.”
