The investment drive of the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola
Ajimobi, on Thursday created fresh 1000 jobs for unemployed graduates as an ultra-modern customer care and skills development centre opened shop in Ibadan, the state capital.
The service provider had in 2013 established a similar centre in the heart of Ibadan, where no fewer than 1,200 youths are currently engaged.
Due to its satisfactory performance, a leading GSM service provider, MTN Nigeria decided to outsource its call centre operation to iSON BPO, a leading service provider of customer experience management.
In his remarks at the event, the governor expressed happiness with
what he called the new wave of employment generation enterprises in the state, saying it was not only satisfying but also gratifying.
An elated Ajimobi said that the government was always pleased
to participate in the process of establishing new businesses and
corporate enterprises in the state.
“Not only do I love seeing our own people and foreigners starting
companies here, I am usually very thankful to these entrepreneurs and investors because their firms and businesses contribute to the growth of our economy by creating jobs that better the lives of many of our people across the length and breadth of our state.
“Consequently, every time I am invited to the opening of a new
enterprise anywhere within Oyo Sate, I always feel like a proud, happy and exultant father welcoming another new baby into my large extended family,” he said.
Governor Ajimobi was particularly pleased that of the 8,000 employees working with iSON Group across Africa, 2,500 were employed and domiciled, not just in Nigeria, but in Ibadan, the state capital.
He added that the number of young men and women had since been
successfully pulled out of the unemployment markets and thus offered invaluable opportunities for decent livelihoods, while their families and dependants had also been given a chance for good living.
“The fact that these citizens are now productively engaged and happy means that the misery level in our society is significantly reduced,” he noted.
According to Governor Ajimobi, the attendant consequence of the
development was the entrenchment of peace and security.
“With reduced incidences of crimes and criminals, our environment
becomes more attractive to new businesses and investments. With
increased entrepreneurial and investment activities, the rate of
unemployment drops. And so, the circle of peace, progress and growth begins all over again,” he said.
Governor Ajimobi pledged the continued support of his administration to the firm in its commitment to the economic development and well-being of the state and its people.
He charged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to take advantage of the many investment opportunities, incentives and benefits available in Oyo which he described as one of the most endowed states in the country.
In his welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of iSON BPO, Pravin Kumar said with the centres, his firm would assist in
alleviating the current spate of unemployment as well as contributing towards valuable resource and capacity development in Nigeria.
He said that the choice of Ibadan for the establishment of the two
call centres was sequel to the conducive environment created by the state government even as he expressed appreciation to Governor Ajimobi for his support to his organization.
