13 Tiv farmers killed as suspected herdsmen attack Benue villages

About 13 Tiv farmers have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen who over ran two Benue villages on Thursday.

The herdsmen, armed  with sophisticated weapons  and numbering about 400 attacked Tombo ward in Logo local government and Moon district, in Kwande local government.

In Tombo ward, the armed bandit attacked and set ablaze Adzege, Tse Dzungwe, the home of Uja Emmanuel, the Nation reporter in Benue and setting it ablaze.

They also attacked Anyibe, Tse Gbeleve and were heading to Ayilamo, the administration headquarters of Tombo ward, which is just 15 minutes drive to Anyiin, the country home of Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Most of the inhabitants of the settlement in Tombo ward fled days back before the attackers arrived and reduced their houses to rubble.

Chairman Logo local government council, Hon kester Ikyenge said, security men have been drafted to the crisis zone and appealed for calm.

Hon. Ikyenge, who is also the chairman ALGON in Benue state called on both parties to lay down their arms and embrace dialogue.

In Moon districts in Kwande local government, the herdsmen stormed the villages in the night when the people were asleep.

According to an eye witness, Mr. Paul Ukeyima, who escaped from the attacked, the gunmen surrounded the entire settlement and set the houses on fire.

In the melee that ensued, they shot at their victims as they attempt to escape, leaving 13 people dead while over 15 settlement were set ablaze.
