Despite being disqualified by his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), the acting governor of Adamawa State and the PDP’s standard bearer in the October 11 by-election, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has suggested that he may run for the same office in 2015. He spoke to journalist in Abuja after his visit to the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu on Wednesday.
While reiterating that his focus was on the by-election, Fintiri said all other governorship 13 aspirants in the PDP were supporting him.
When asked about his plans for 2015, the acting governor responded that his fate will only be decided by God. “Only God will determine my fate in 2015, but let me say that my preoccupation now is how to win the October 11 bye-election. After that, we will face the new challenge.”
It will be recalled that Fintiri defeated former military administrator of Lagos State, Buba Marwa, Dr Umar Ardo and Mr. Jerry Kumdisi to win the PDP governorship primary for the by-election. Before that election, former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu and seven other aspirants stepped down after a meeting with Senate President David Mark and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja.
It was agreed at the closed-door meeting that those who would contest in the primary for the by-election would not be allowed to contest for the position in 2015. The meeting also agreed that only those who stepped down could contest for the party’s governorship election ticket in 2015.
This agreement was reiterated on Tuesday by PDP’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo. He said all the aspirants (including Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri) that attended the meeting signed an agreement willingly that the party will select its next governorship candidate from Adamawa Central Senatorial District. Acting Governor Fintiri is from Adamawa North Senatorial District.
Prof. Oladipo said he was sure none of the persons who signed the agreement would go back on their words.
