The Director-General of the State Security Service, Ekpenyong Ita, has attributed the success of the security agencies in curtailing the operations of Boko Haram insurgents to advanced technology.

Ita who stated this in Abuja on Sunday at the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course for 47 participants at the Institute for Security Studies, Bwari in the FCT, said that the service would continue to invest in technology and human capacity development for national security.

Ita said that the service would remain steadfast in its determination to proactively identify and neutralise security threats.

He emphasised the importance of equipping critical organisations in the public and private sectors with appropriate gadgets to manage security related issues effectively.

Ita said that as part of the human capacity development programme of the agency, 12 members of its staff would soon be sent to the Harvard University for further studies.

Ita said that the training became necessary to empower them for leadership roles.

According to Ita, the SSS has provided training in various spheres of security endeavours for 1,248 participants drawn from critical government organisations and various foreign countries in the last three years.

“This service has therefore placed great premium on the acquisition of advanced technology for its operations through cutting edge know-how in keeping with international best practices.

“What this has translated to, is the procurement of intelligence products that are more precise, credible, reliable, accurate and I dare say, faultless,” he said.

He said that the acquisition of enhanced intellectual capability alone could not result to meaningful achievements without commensurate technical support.
