Alao-Akala, former Oyo governor, is dead

Adebayo Alao-Akala, former governor of Oyo state, is dead. Alao-Akala died on Wednesday, aged 71.

He was born on June 3, 1950 in Ogbomosho, Oyo state.

He was said to have died in his sleep in Ogbomoso on Wednesday morning.

“We have to wait for the family to break the news. But the truth is Governor Akala is no more. He died in his sleep. Information reaching us said he was full of life yesterday night. May God forgive him,” a source said.

He was governor of Oyo state from 2007 to 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He lost his re-election bid in 2011 to the late Abiola Ajimobi.

He also served as the deputy governor of the state from 2003 to 2006 under the government of Rasheed Ladoja.
