The younger brother of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of Rivers state and director-general of APC presidential campaign, Chidi Amaechi, is lying critically ill in the hospital after a violent attack in the early hours of Wednesday.

Assailants were said to have invaded the hostel of the younger Amaechi, who is a student of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo state and inflicted him with life-threatening cuts and injuries.

David Iyofor, chief press secretary to the governor, who confirmed the attack, said that the attackers did not remove or steal anything from Chidi’s room.

It is not clear if it was politically motivated, particularly as the incident occurred outside Rivers, which has recorded the highest rate of violence in the country ahead of the general election.

However, efforts to reach the school authorities to confirm the development did not yield any result, as there was no response to the call put through the enquiry lines found on the school’s website.

Even the SMS sent to the phone lines have not been replied as at the time of filing this report.
