Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has charged public servants in the State to continue to work together in order to strengthen public trust and confidence in public institutions by being proactive, diligent, responsive, innovative and timely in service delivery.
Governor Ambode who gave the charge Thursday in Lagos at the 10th Edition of the Lagos State Long Service Merit Award explained that the need to have public trust and confidence in public institutions was the desired goal of the various reforms and restructuring that the State Government has introduced and implemented.
The Governor who was represented by his Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions, Dr Akintola Benson stressed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare adding that government will always adequately reward diligence, hard work and exceptional performance just as negligence, indiscipline and abuse of trust would be sanctioned appropriately in line with rules and regulations of the public service.
“Let me use this opportunity to reiterate our commitment to workers’ welfare. We shall adequately reward diligence, hard work and exceptional performance.
“Conversely, negligence, indiscipline and abuse of trust shall be sanctioned appropriately in line with the rules and regulations of the public service,” the Governor opined.
He however thanked and commended Public Servants in the State for their contribution to the success of his administration within the last one year adding that the modest achievements which the State Government had received accolades for could not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of the engine room which the State Public Service represents.
The governor presented long service merit awards to 555 public servants who had distinguished themselves over the years, just as he restated his commitment to the welfare of workers in the State.
The Governor who spoke at the Merit Awards ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, congratulated the recipients of the award, saying that their diligence, hard work and sacrifice has contributed immensely to the success story of the State since its creation in 1967.
“This occasion provides another unique opportunity for me to put on record my heartfelt appreciation for the contribution of the Lagos State public servants to the success of this administration in the last one year.
“The modest achievements for which I have received accolades could not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of the engine room which the public service represents.”
Said he, “the State Government acknowledges and appreciates your diligence, hard work and sacrifice, all of which had contributed to the success story that the Center of Excellence has become today almost fifty years after its creation.”
While congratulating the 555 award recipients that were honoured at the event for their long years of service to the people of Lagos State, the Governor reminded them that as public Servants they owe it a duty to always show good examples as law abiding citizens of the State.
“You will agree with me that spending 35years or more of one’s lifetime contributing to the growth and development of any organisation particularly the public service is worthy of commendation.
“This occasion therefore provides us another unique opportunity for me to put on record my heartfelt appreciation for the contribution of the Lagos State Public Servants to the success of this administration in the last one year,” Ambode averred.
Earlier, the State Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola pledged the continued commitment and loyalty of Public Servants in the State in implementing all the State Government’s policies and programmes for the good governance of the State.
She admonished all awardees not to rest on their oars but rather should continue to exhibit the high sense of responsibility, commitment to duty and unwavering loyalty which the day’s recognition and celebration are all about just as she urged other Public Servants who are yet to be honoured, to continue discharging their duties to the best of their abilities so that at the appropriate time, they too would be honoured.
“I sincerely congratulate and rejoice with the proud recipients of today’s Awards and wish to affirm that the State Government recognizes and appreciates your immense contribution to the development of the State.
“Let me assure you that the State Government on its part will continue to provide the necessary and conducive environment for the attainment of your lofty goals.
“Government will also continue to place a high premium on the welfare of its Staff with a view to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in order to bring out the best in them,” Ademola noted.
