The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has sealed some branches of Eko Commercial Bank in the state over alleged N2 billion tax default.

Achike Emejulu, the AIRS Executive Chairman, who made the disclosure in an interview on Monday in Awka, said that the agency sealed most of the bank’s branches in the state after obtaining writ of execution from the Court because of non remittance of Pay As You Earn tax.

Emejulu said that the N2 billion tax accumulated from 2006 to 2011.

The chairman said that the government would recover all debts owed it by corporate organizations in the state.

He said that the agency will soon seal a beverage company in Onitsha and another commercial bank for their inability to pay their taxes.

Emejulu said that the state has about one million potential taxpayers, but only about two hundred thousand are currently paying tax.
