The All Progressives Congress in the South-East and some governors elected on the party’s platform have hailed the emergence of a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as the party’s presidential candidate.

The APC also hailed the losers of the party’s presidential primary for accepting defeat in good faith.

The party, which described the losers as co-winners of the presidential primary, saluted the robust understanding and sportsmanship they demonstrated after the result of the exercise was announced.

The party said the candour of the losers and their solidarity with the winner was uncommon and highly commendable.

A statement issued on Friday by the spokesman for the APC in South-East, Osita Okechukwu, said the result of the primary reflected a nationwide acceptance of Buhari as a man of the people.

Also, the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and his Osun State counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated Buhari on his victory at the primary.

They said in statements issued by their spokespersons that Buhari’s emergence was an attestation of the high regard the party had for democratic process.

According to Ajimobi, with the successful completion of the primary under a convivial atmosphere, APC is now set to take over power at the centre from the Peoples Democratic Party through the ballot box and take the country to greater heights.

Aregbesola said if elected President next year, Buhari would stamp out the corruption threatening Nigeria’s development as well as turn the fortunes of the country around.

He said, “It is clear now that Nigerians are determined to jettison their religious, tribal, partisan and other mundane interests to rally support for Buhari in the interest of the country’s development.

“The people have chosen the best man for the job regardless of all other less edifying considerations. Buhari represents the face of the required battle against corruption.

“He represents openness and commitment to good governance. For those who consider the awful impact of corruption on our country, the choice of Gen Buhari would easily translate to the readiness of Nigerians to battle against the most debilitating scourge against the country’s growth.”
