‘APGA is a movement in Anambra, not just a party’ - Soludo tells PDP defectors

Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra, says the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is not just a political party but a movement where everyone is equal and included.

Soludo spoke on Wednesday in Awka, the state capital, while welcoming 15,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra who defected to APGA.

“The first political party I joined was the PDP and I was the flag bearer in the 2010 governorship election in Anambra,” the governor said.

“During that time, I worked with many of you. It took me one year to make the decision to join APGA in 2013 and when I joined, they disqualified me as the governorship candidate, but I persisted because I knew it was my last bus stop.

“Today, I am a governor and the national leader of APGA. APGA is the first progressive party in Nigeria, registered in 2002.

“It is not just a political party but a movement in Anambra, where everybody is equal and no one is left behind.”

The governor asked the new APGA members to complete their registration at the ward level and join the party’s cooperative aimed at empowering all members.

Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, APGA chairman in Anambra, received the new members and applauded the governor’s leadership for inspiring defections from rival parties.

On Saturday, Soludo returned unopposed as the party’s flagbearer after securing over 3,000 votes during the APGA governorship primary election.

The Anambra governorship election will be held on November 8.
