After serving out two terms as chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos, Kehinde Bamigbetan, has formally declared his intention to contest election into the House of Representatives.

Bamigbetan, a frontline journalist and former Chief Press Secretary to former governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, in a statement at the weekend, said that “With gratitude to you for your support and to the Almighty for giving us the grace to administer the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area for two terms, I wish to personally inform you of the flag-off of my campaign to be elected Member, House of Representatives in the next civilian republic.

“We have come a long way. When I declared my interest in the chairmanship of Ejigbo LCDA, you were one of the people who gave me your blessings.

“I look back at those moments today and I feel deeply blessed to have met you. Many of the promises I made looked impossible. Some were dismissed as just the empty promises of another politician.

“Look around you today, two new public primary schools- Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary School and Oladele Alake Primary School- now exists for the residents of Ailegun and Aigbaka.

“I have built three new Primary Health Centres for residents to Ifoshi, Aigbaka and Medium Housing Estate, Jakande. Eight local government roads- Jubril Olabisi, Ibrahim Nass (Rainbow), Double Star, Kayode Powerline, Kolawole Sebili, Rafiu Tijani, Nurudeen Obe, Jakande Gate were upgraded with asphalt. Work on Ona Iwa Mimo is going on as I write.

“Our administration collaborated with the Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola administration at state level to upgrade Ejigbo-Ajao Estate Bridge, Ejigbo-Idimu (on-going), Ejigbo-Ijegun (on-going), Ailegun, Oyalana (on-going) Beresford, Kudirat Adenekan, Adejumo Tennis Club, Taiwo Akinsanya roads.

“I have laid the foundation for modern Ejigbo by establishing first-ever projects- first Customary Court, first Jetty, first Fire Service Station, First public water reticulation project, First Abbatoir, public toilets and ward offices- that no future government need to provide.

But beyond the projects, Bamigbetan said he has delivered the people-oriented programmes he promised: Free GCE, Free JAMB, Free Uniforms, Free Drugs, Free Benches and Desks, Free Meals, Grant to Co-operatives, Free interest loans for workers, grant to community development associations etc.

With these, he said that his administration has raised child school enrolment from 4,200 to 8,000.

Bamigbetan boasted that Ejigbo LCDA has become a model of prudence and service delivery in grassroots governance. “Your LCDA is the first in Nigeria to implement UK based DFID GEMS 3 programme leading to the introduction of Point of Payment in Revenue Generation.

Bamigbetan said he was encouraged to aspire to serve as your Member in the Federal House of Representatives by the various giant strides he achieved during his tenure in the LCDA.

“I need you to obtain the ticket of my party, the All Progressives Congress in the primaries in November and ultimately win the general elections in February 2015,” he said.
