The governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, has accused some Abuja-based members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of sending thugs to attack the party’s presidential election campaign rally held in the state on January 22.
Yuguda revealed this in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
His assertion came after the All Progressives Congress (APC) had claimed that the recent attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign train was orchestrated by the PDP in order to demonise the opposition.
Yuguda, who is also a member of the PDP, said some of the top members from Abuja organized the youth violence .
Federal Minister Bala Mohammed, chairman of PDP national Ahmadu Mu’azu of the members of the PDP the state are not friends with the governor, despite the fact that they belong to the same party .
On Thursday, some youths from the faction of the PDP attacked the entourage of President Goodluck Jonathan in some streets, including when the team was on their way to the palace of the Emir of Bauchi.
The APC, in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, insisted that the attacks were planned by some members of the ruling PDP.
“Information is now in the public domain that these attacks were self-inflicted, with the aim of demonizing the APC and instigating retaliatory attacks in the southern states, thus precipitating chaos which the PDP and the Presidency will then use as an excuse for the postponement of the elections.
“Apparently they did not envisage that the information about their complicity over the attacks will leak to the public. It is common knowledge that the security around the President is such that no hoodlum can come close enough to pelt him with stones,” APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed said in a statement released on Saturday.
