Members of the Boko Haram sect have continued to ignore the ceasefire agreement they reached with the Federal Government by beheading six people along the Biu – Garkida road on Friday.
The road is said to be the same one where the Emir of Gwoza, Idrissa Timta, was killed few months ago. The sect was also said to have attacked and killed people at Abadam village around Lake Chad in Borno State and Gava III of Gwoza local government area and are said to be still in full control of the village as at Sunday
The latest round of Boko Haram atrocity is coming as the prevailing fragile peace in Taraba State was shattered when some gunmen invaded Sondi village in Wukari Local Government Area, killing no fewer than 14 people.
However, since the report of the ceasefire between members of Boko Haram was announced, the killings appeared to be more severe and brutal.
According to the Executive Director of Stefanos Foundation, Mark Lipdo, the sect after slaughtering their victims left the bodies lying there for a long time on the spot where the Emir of Gwoza was killed months ago.
Lipdo quoting sources from the area, said the insurgents have stayed put, preventing relatives from taking their dead.
He said in an effort to remove the bodies, the son to one of the victims was shot as he attempt to retrieve his father’s body. He is said to be presently receiving treatment in a hospital in Biu.
Meanwhile the gunmen who attacked the Taraba village also burnt many houses and looted properties.
Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ademola Omole, who confirmed the attack said only seven people were killed, adding that said the attackers are suspected to be armed herdsmen.
Omole said, “So far only seven people were confirmed killed we are fully on ground. I have sent more of our men to the area and peace has returned to the troubled spot.”
