Sheikh Kamorudeen Akorede, the Chief Imam of the Al-hidayyah Islamic Foundation, Olambe in Ogun State has condemned what he termed as the nefarious activities of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, insisting that those associating the group and its heinous activities with Islam do not have the basic understanding of what the religion is all about.
Sheikh Akorede who stated this while delivering his Friday sermon, said that Islam abhors violence in whatever form and wondered why people usually associate criminality with the religion which he said that Allah was so categorical in the Qur’an about the sanctity of human lives.
Akorede said that it was wrong to insinuate that the Boko Haram sects are Muslims simply because the terrorist group allegedly profess Islam, reiterating that “Boko Harams are not Muslims and Muslims are not Boko Haram.”
The muslim cleric said that the criminal gang was a creation of those whose intent and purposes are to smear the Islamic religion, stressing that there are several strategies that have been and are being invented by the alleged enemies of Islam to undermine it and portend it as an inhuman religion.
“If it so expressly stated in the Qura’n that spilling of human blood under whatever guise attract the highest punishment from Allah in the day of judgment, If Allah forbids even you as a person from taken your own life, why would anyone in his right senses say the various killings and maiming being carried out by the Boko Haram is about the religion.
“Again, the sect said they have converted the kidnapped schoolgirls into wrong and clearly against the doctrine of Islam. There is no compulsion in Islam. You don’t force people to be what they don’t want to be. All these are part of the age-long orchestrated campaign against Islam.
He regretted that the Federal Government has allowed the Boko Haram insurgency to fester for so long to a situation where “the Americans and the Isrealis who are confirmed enemies of Islam are those that we now look up to for help.
“The Isrealis have been killing our brothers in the Palestine for years, yet, no one is raising an eyebrow. Why didn’t the Americans go to Syria where Muslims are killing themselves or why not in Somalia? It is unfortunate that we have allowed them into our territory and only God knows when this will end,” he said.
Sheikh Akorede urged Muslims to offer special prayers for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls in Borno and for the cessation of the violent activities of the sect for peace to reign in the country.
The cleric who appealed to the Boko Haram members to release the girls unconditionally, urged Nigerians to assist security operatives by giving useful information on the whereabouts of the girls to secure their safe release.
