President Muhammadu Buhari has consoled the widow of the environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr, assuring that her family is not alone in mourning the passage of the illustrious son of Ogoni land.

In a telephone call on Thursday, the President, while consoling the widow and her children, enjoined them to take solace in the knowledge that their late husband and father lived to see the beginning of the restoration of the devastated ecosystem of Ogoni land – a struggle which he had inherited from his late father, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

President Buhari urged the widow to remain emotionally strong and resilient at this sad period in the life of the family, stressing that Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr did not die in vain, as his earthly exploits will remain evergreen in national consciousness.

The President’s telephone call followed his condolence message on Wednesday, in which he extolled the achievements of the late author and journalist.

Meanwhile, Buhari has felicitated with distinguished businesswoman, banker, economist and accountant, Otunba Ayora (Dr.) Bola Kuforiji Olubi, OON, who recently clocked 80.

The President recalled the former minister’s decades of distinguished career in the private and public sectors of national life, and noted that Otunba Kuforiji Olubi’s contributions will remain inspiring to the younger generation.

“It is not surprising that she is a proud and well-deserved recipient of the National Honour, fellowships, awards and honorary degrees from within and outside the country,” President said of the first female chairman of one of the first generation banks in Nigeria.

He particularly expressed delight that Otunba Kuforiji Olubi has remained a pace-setter and leader in banking, manufacturing and entrepreneurship not only in Nigeria but also in Sub-Saharan Africa.

President Buhari, while noting that God has been kind to Otunba Kuforiji Olubi, prayed for continued health and longer life for the octogenarian, author and philanthropist to “enable the nation and humanity benefit from her wisdom and wealth of experience.”
