Unknown gunmen have shot Comfort Tuluem, the collation officer for Gboko local government area of Benue state.
Tuluem, a lecturer at the University of Agriculture, Benue, was attacked on her way to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) head office in Markurdi, the state capital, on Saturday night.
It was gathered that the incident happened on the Markurdi-Gboko road when the attackers reportedly fired at the vehicle conveying Tuluem to the collation centre and the bullet hit her on the leg.
She was taken to the hospital immediately. Benue is one of five states where supplementary governorship election is ongoing. There were incidents of violence in the state during the election.
Suspected thugs had attacked electoral officials and political party agents on their way to Chito Adzendechi council ward, headquarters of Ukum local government area of the state on Saturday morning.
They had seized and set electoral materials, preventing over 13,000 voters in the ward from participating in the exercise.
