The embattled governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, got a reprieve on Thursday as a High Court in the state fixed May 27, two days before the expiration of his tenure for hearing in a suit filed by the governor seeking to stop the state House of Assembly from impeaching him.

The governor approached the state High Court Thursday, as efforts aimed at staving off threats of impeachment from the lawmakers seemed to have failed.

With the May 27 date fixed for hearing, the impeachment process appeared to have been technically hampered, as the governor is billed to bow out of office officially on the 29th of May.
