The clash by cult groups at Anglican High School, Testing Ground Area, Osogbo, State of Osun has forced teachers to abandon the school and an official closure by government.

Informed sources told New Mail that frequent clashes between cult groups have become a recurring decimal in the school of late.

The attacks reportedly reached its climax last Monday when teachers were forced to flee for their lives.

There was another round of clashes on Wednesday which compelled the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state to order teachers to stay at home and the subsequent closure of the school by the state government.

New Mail gathered that things got awry last Wednesday when a student named Toib Oluaye walked a female Home Economics teacher out of class.

Oluaye was said to be in possession of dangerous weapons with intent to unleash mayhem on members of the Peace Corps deployed to the school to maintain discipline.

According to Amuda Wakil, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, State of Osun, teachers were instructed by the union to stay at home when the clashes became a threat to everybody, including teachers.

‘We had earlier instructed our teachers to stay at home when the clashes became frequent and the environment was not conducive to learning nor support the safety of lives of innocent students and teachers before the government ordered the school shut,” he stated.

When our correspondent contacted Lawrence Oyeniran, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, State of Osun on the matter, he said he was not in a position to comment on the matter.

Anglican High School consists of five schools [1-5] and Adenle Middle School with an estimated population of close to seven thousand students.

Meanwhile, the school has been under the watch of armed policemen since it was ordered closed by the state government.
