A former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, is set to formally return to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] at a ceremony scheduled to hold on October 7.

Daniel, who is currently the state leader of the Labour Party, LP, made the revelation at a reconciliatory meeting of all the feuding factions in PDP held at his Sagamu residence on Monday.

The meeting noted that for the PDP to be successful in its bid to regain power next year, it has to put an end to the internal power supremacy within the fold and prepare ground for the smooth return of Mr. Daniel and his followers.

In attendance at the meeting were some founding fathers of the PDP in the state, as well as representatives of the splinter groups.

The founding fathers include Jubril Martins- Kuye, Sule Onabiyi, and Ayo Otegbola, as well as chieftains of the party, Dave Salako, Iyabode Apampa, Alani Akinde, Kolapo Ogunjobi, among others.

Sources said that stakeholders from the defunct Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, in the state, Labour Party, LP, as well as those who had stayed away since the state PDP crisis began shortly before the 2011 governorship election, were also in attendance.

‪However, at the end of the meeting all the stakeholders agreed to join hands with the leadership of the party in the state ahead of the 2015 general elections.

‪Some leaders of the party, speaking with journalists after the meeting, declared that they were ready to join hands with the existing structure to fight the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state in the coming elections.

‪Daniel, in his own remark, said there was a change but it was not because PDP lost or that the opposition won, but because PDP lost largely because of in-fighting within the fold.

‪”As responsible citizens and practitioners, we need to rescue the state especially from the sort of challenges which we can hear on the streets and that is one of the reasons why resolutions are being made and people are coming together for the sake of our people.

“Last year, it was just issues of principles and perception and we are now coming together.

‪”(Buruji) Kashamu is our friend and our person and we thank him for his efforts so far. In politics, we have positions and we are hopeful that we are going to work together to rescue the people of Ogun State. It is not about the rights and wrongs of the personalities involved, it is that we have come together to help the people of Ogun state and that is what we are doing,” he said.

‪Confirming Daniel’s planned return to PDP, Martins-Kuye disclosed that all leaders of the party were at the meeting to perfect the former governor’s public declaration for the PDP scheduled to hold on October 7.
