Inuwa Yahaha, governor of Gombe state, has appointed Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba as the new Mai Tangale in Billiri.

There had been protests by some persons who accused the government of being biased in the selection of a new Mai Tangale.

The protesters claimed that the kingmakers had selected Musa Maiyamba as the next chief.

They accused the state government of delaying issuing Maiyamba his appointment letter because he is not of the same religion as the governor who is a Muslim.

But in a statement on Wednesday confirming the new appointment, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor’s spokesperson, said his principal has acted within his constitutional powers.

He said the appointment was based on the recommendations of the kingmakers of the chiefdom.

“In Exercise of the powers vested in him under the Gombe state Chieftaincy Law, 2020 and based on the recommendation of the Kingmakers of the Tangale Chiefdom, the Gombe state Governor, Alhaji has approved the appointment of Alhaji Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba.

“The Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo who conveyed the Governor’s approval and presented the appointment later to the new Mai Tangle in Poshiya, Billiri, said the the appointment of Malam Danladi Maiyamba was informed by his personal qualities and suitability.
