The Forum of All Political Parties in Akwa Ibom has adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.

The forum announced the adoption at a news conference in Uyo on Thursday.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, the Secretary, Jude Titus, said that the adoption of Buhari was based on the conviction that Buhari was capable of maintaining peace in the country.

“We the Forum of All Political Parties in Akwa Ibom unanimously adopt President Muhammadu Buhari for President come February 23, 2019.

“We believe in the President as a leader capable of maintaining the peace, harmony and the existence of dear country, Nigeria for a sustainable development.

“As such, the Forum of All Political Parties in Akwa Ibom declared total support for him before, during and after the 2019 general elections and beyond,” the forum said.

The forum added that its adoption of Buhari was also based on his stand in the fight against corruption in the country.

The forum noted that apart from the Late Gen. Murtala Muhammed, who wanted to fight corruption, no Nigerian leader had shown commitment to the fight against corruption as President Buhari.

On their delay on the adoption till now, the forum Chairman, Kingsley Akaiso, said that it was a deliberate strategy due to adequate consultation to ensure the acceptance by the 41political parties making up the forum.
