The Goodluck Jonathan government plans to block funding for Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign by freezing accounts of his financiers, said the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Saturday.

The campaign council, through its director, media, Garba Shehu, mentioned as targets Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos, and Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers State Governor and director-general of the Buhari presidential campaign. Shehu added that private aircrafts used in running Buhari’s campaign might also be grounded through contrived policies to be made by the aviation ministry.

“The hint we gather from sources is that the government, through its agents, is plotting to ground aircraft and freeze bank accounts of APC stakeholders. But history has shown that the forces of evil can never succeed against the zeal of men and women of virtue and good deeds.

“There is also a plot to block or freeze the bank accounts of APC chieftains like Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi (Director General of APC Presidential Campaign Organisation), and other prominent leaders believed to be funding the General’s campaign; and availing him their aircrafts for electioneering purposes”.

Shehu cited as precedent the grounding of the private jets, which conveyed Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Amaechi, in Benin and Akure during the Ekiti governorship election on the orders of the Federal Government.

He said the result of which “saw PDP’s Ayodele Fayose defeating Dr Kayode Fayemi, in a most controversial military-assisted contest now known as Ekiti-gate Tape”.

The alleged plan, Shehu explained, is to destabilise the APC and Buhari, and purportedly detract the global attention his delivery at the United kingdom’s Chatham House last Thursday.
