The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed has warned the non performing FCT Administration directors to either resign or face sack.
Mohammed made the declaration when he embarked on tour of the territory with the FCTA executives and the handing over of operational vehicles to security agents in Abuja.
He said that most of the FCTA directors were only paying lip service to duties, neglecting and handling the administration’s day to day activities nonchalantly.
|Last year, I read riot act to all the heads of departments over non performance that they must improve on their duties, but they have not meet up with the administration’s expectation.
“It is not that we cannot rusticate officers; I have read the riot act that anyone who cannot key into our vision should resign honourably; because I am getting out of patience.’’
The minister said that all the information that the directors had been given to him were mere lies, adding that the directors usually claimed that the city was free of crime, impurity, street hawkers, and beggars, among others.
“We cannot allow lack of capacity of enforcement to mar all the infrastructure amounting to billions of dollars that put in place in the city. I decided to embark on this tour to ascertain the authenticity of the reports being received from the various heads of departments on enforcement in the capital city.
“Today, we resolved to move away a bit from the usual manner of receiving information from our directors on normal metropolitan management services, especially on environmental sanitation.
“Water resource management, traffic control, and I noticed that Keke Napep and Motor cycles are still plying city centres. I felt highly disappointed as the leader of the FCTA, but of course, we have problem with demography, we have problem of enforcement. It is unacceptable that this city will become polluted as Abuja is not supposed to degenerate to what it is today,’’ he said.
Mohammed said that the FCTA would set up an 11-man operational task force committee under the new FCT Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu as the chairman.
He said that the committee would ensure that the city was secured and habitable for residents.
“We are sending notice to all those that are violating our by-laws that enough is enough. Nobody will be allowed to bring KEKE NAPEP and Okada to where they are not supposed to ply,’’ he said.
The minister said that 45 Hilux pick-ups had been purchased at the cost of N400million, adding that the hilux would be handed over to the security agencies for monitoring and inspection of the city.
Responding, the FCT Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu thanked the FCT minister for the gesture, assuring that the FCT Police Command was on the same page, particularly in fighting crime and criminality.
Mbu warned criminals and law breakers to move away from Abuja, saying that they would not have any hiding place in the entire territory.
