Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa state, says Abdullahi Ganduje, his Kano counterpart, informed him that Muhammadu Sanusi II, deposed emir, was being sent to his state.
Speaking during a Channels TV programme on Monday, Sule said Ganduje called him shortly after Sanusi was deposed to inquire if he would accept the ex-monarch in Nasarawa.
Sanusi was banished to Nasarawa after the Kano executive council dethroned him for “total disrespect to the office of the governor”, among other allegations.
Although Ibrahim Muktar, attorney-general of Kano, said the state government did not banish the former emir, Sule said Ganduje informed him of the decision to “relocate” Sanusi.
Sule said: “When they made the decision to remove him, the governor called me and said, the emir has been removed, and we have to take him somewhere.
“So, we have decided that we will relocate him to Nasarawa, will you accept him? Who am I not to accept somebody like the former emir of Kano?
“So, I told him, it will be an honour for me to receive him; that I will be more than happy to receive him.
“The only thing I will plead is allow me to select where he will go. Because I knew that was going to be a factor. And his safety was of utmost importance to me.”
He added that part of why the emir was relocated from Loko community to Awe was because of its distance to the state capital, in addition to bad roads.
