Friends of governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Thursday commiserated with him on the death of his mother, Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson popularly called Mama Gogo, with a call on him to immortalise her by inaugurating a peace prize.
They said that although this is a trying moment of the governor and his family, they were consoled by the fact that Mama Gogo lived a fulfilled life which has been known to be exemplary and honourable.
Dickson’s friends under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians for Dickson (CNFD), expressed these feelings in a statement signed by its President, Raphael Okonkwo Ohioya and Secretary-General, Rose (Adah) Dikeocha.
The document reads: “Your Excellency, we the undersigned on behalf of Concerned Nigerians for Dickson (CNFD), whose members cut across the length and breadth of Nigeria, commiserate with you on the death of your mother and matriarch of the Dickson’s dynasty, Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson popularly called Mama Gogo, whose exit from the sinful world at the age of 72 has left a great scar on our psyche.
“This is without doubt, a tough and trying period for the Dickson’s family. We are however consoled by the fact that Mama has lived a fulfilled life which has been known to be exemplary and honourable. We can only tell you to weep less because Mama lived a wonderful life.
“Physically, she was there for the family and spiritually, the success of the governor in his battles on the political turf lent credence to her supplications to the Most High.
“From what we have heard about her, Mama Gogo was forthright, courageous, visionary and intrepid. As a devout Christian, she was said to have championed the clamour for peace and worthy causes, both in her community, Bayelsa State and the society at large. To her, peace is the supreme instrument of social cohesion.
“Therefore to us, she is an Ambassador of Peace and the best way to keep alive the dreams of Mama Gogo is to immortalise her by instituting a peace prize in her name.
“While we pray the Most High to grant the Dickson’s family the fortitude to bear the departure of their matriarch, we wish the departed soul of Mama Gogo an awakening unto bliss and eternal peace.”
