Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Thursday inaugurated a 12-man committee to reform the state civil service for optimal performance.
Speaking at the inauguration in Lafia, Sule said the committee had four weeks to submit its reports to enable government to restructure the civil service in line with its vision.
He explained that the step was in fulfilment of his promise during his inaugural speech on May 29, to make the civil service more viable .
He said government believed that the recommendations of the committee would help it to make civil servants more efficient and to reduce the cost of governance.
The terms of reference of the committee, he said, included to determine the current number of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as government-owned companies.
He said that the committee should identify and streamline areas of conflicts in the responsibilities of the MDAs.
“Others are to define appropriate functions of the MDAs; and to examine the administrative guideline of the State Executive Council, based on the present realities,” he said.
Sule further tasked the committee to make other recommendations relevant to their responsibility and advise government accordingly.
The governor noted that the members, who were carefully selected based on their experiences and competency, should deliver promptly to sustain government’s confidence in them.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its Chairman, Silas Dachor, former Head of Service, gave the assurance that the committee would deliver on its mandate without fear or favour.
Dachor said though the work was demanding, the committee members would commit their whole time and efforts to ensure its completion within the stipulated time.
The chairman of the committee apealed to all civil servants in the state to cooperate with the members and avail them with relevant documents and information.
