The Media Committee of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe campaign organization has raised an alarm over a “mischievous and childish publication in Scan news, an on-line publication, entitled: “Reason Why Magnus Abe Visited Port Harcourt Barracks of the Nigerian Army”.

The content of the story, according to the group, had a say-nothing lead, which smacks unprofessionalism.

“There is no doubt that the piece is a propaganda stunt by Gov. Nyesom Wike and the Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to perfect their rigging plan and to deter law enforcement agents from doing their work with regard to ensuring adequate security during the December 10 legislative re-run elections.

“Let it be stated unequivocally, clearly and succinctly that Senator Magnus Abe never visited 2nd Amphibious Brigade, Bori camp, Port Harcourt, on Friday November 11, 2016 and that he was on that day at Bera community in Gokana Local Government Area, holding meetings with stakeholders and party faithful.

“Suffice it to state that the whole idea of the propaganda piece is to weaken security agents particularly Nigerian Army not to do the needful against plans by Nyesom Wike and his cohorts to organize a violent protest to mar the elections in the Rivers South East Senatorial District, they had foreseen Senator Magnus Abe would win.”

The statement by Parry Saroh Benson, said a cursory look at the story indicated that the content lacks logic and the attribute of the information does not exist not to talk of lacking credibility. “It is just a figment of the imagination of Nyesom Wike and his propaganda team.

“We make bold to state that they fear that Senator Abe may have gotten an inkling of their plans and could make contact with security agencies to forestall their intentions, hence the need for the scan news publication.

“It is important to point out that they did the same in the case of Solomon Ndigbara, ex-militant leader, where they maligned Abe of being responsible for the security operation in Yeghe.”

Benson said that a similar plot is being hatched to tarnish Abe’s image, should security men be deployed to quell their planned violent protest.

“It is pertinent to state that this is an attempt for the kettle to call the pot black.

“It is on record that the Secretary to the Government of Rivers State, Hon. Kenneth Kobani has been a regular visitor to Bori camp; he virtually lives in the Barracks.

“Other PDP functionaries have been visiting Bori camp as they like and nobody has raised an eyebrow.

“Even the governor in the guise of holding daily security meetings in Government House has been trying to promote and foist his selfish political agenda on the security agencies.

“We are aware of the fact that the so-called Amnesty Programme of the Rivers State government is part of the game plan by the governor and the PDP to formidably organize cultists and other miscreants to foment trouble in the state under the guise of mass protest.

“We are also aware that one Samuel Nwanosike aka ‘ishi’, a key functionary of the PDP is coordinating the protest to cause mayhem, targeted at APC members.

“Let it be told to PDP and their cohorts for the umpteenth time that though Senator Abe never visited Bori camp on the said date nothing stops him as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as somebody who had served both the state and the federal government at the highest level not to visit Bori camp any day if the need arises to see any army officer including the Brigade commander.

“The idea of this propaganda is to dissuade APC members and officials from visiting security agencies thus providing exclusive hobnobbing of PDP officials and security agencies.

“We are aware of the clandestine schemes of the PDP to rubbish Senator Abe of his hard earn reputation and support of the people of the district but mudslinging will always backfire.”
