The endorsement of the President of Senate, David Mark, for another term, by selected politicians in Benue south senatorial zone, ahead of the 2015 general elections has been condemned by a group, under the aegis of the Concerned Idoma Democrats, CID.

In a statement issued on Friday in Makurdi the state capital, by the President and Publicity Secretary of the CID, Sunday Ali and Comrade Dan Onda respectively, the group cautioned against the unpopular endorsement of aspirants.

They insisted that all aspirants should be availed a level playing field to propagate their aspiration in the interest of fairness and equity.

“We caution against undue endorsement of aspirants without recourse to the generality of the people who are the ultimate deciders of those who represent them at any level of governance.

“In the light of the above, we condemn the purported endorsement of Senator David Mark by some Council Chairmen in Benue South Senatorial District.

“The council chairmen led by the Ogbadibo chairman, Sunday Ojo had no mandate of the Idoma people to do so. We reject the claim by Ojo that there is no worthy Idoma person for the senatorial position.

“The senatorial position is for the Idoma people and not an exclusive preserve of any individual. All aspirants should be given equal opportunity to exercise their right to represent the Idoma people at the senate.

“The Idoma people will decide who represents them at the Senate as against the few self-serving politicians.

“We also urge those using Apa State creatin as a campaign strategy to stop forthwith, because the issue of state creation is beyond any individual and therefore should not be used to score a cheap popularity as was the case in the past.”
