A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State, led by the South-West coordinator, Kashamu Buruji is about now conducting the governorship primaries in contravention of the orders of the national secretariat of the party.

The party’s national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh had in a statement this morning in Abuja announced the cancellation of the Ogun State chapter of the primaries.

While announcing the decision of the National Working Committee to cancel the governorship primary election in Ogun state, Metuh said that the primary was not authorised and that a new date would be announced later.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC hereby states that it did not authorise any governorship primary in Ogun state.

“Consequently, any such exercise held in Ogun state is hereby declared null and void and of no effect. A new date will be communicated for the primary,” Metuh said.

However, New Mail correspondent reports from Abeokuta, Ogun State capital that the faction, loyal to Buruji is about now casting their votes to elect the governorship candidate.

Although he reports that the no representatives of both the national secretariat of the party and that of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC were present, three of the governorship aspirants, Adegboyega Nasir Isiaka, Segun Adewale and Kayode Amusan were all at the PDP secretariat venue of the primaries.

Curiously, however, former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who only last week dropped his senatorial ambition in favour of Buruji was olso absent at the primaries.
