The 78-year old father of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Tourism Development, Nelson Belief, has been abducted.

The commissioner’s father, Uroh Nelson Tempurah, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at the coastal community of Minibeleu, Akassa, in Brass local government area of the state.

The victim was reportedly abducted at about 2.56am on Tuesday by seven gunmen.

The bandits were said to have shot sporadically into the air before whisking their victim away.

Nelson, who confirmed the development, said the kidnappers had yet to contact his family.

Sources said the gunmen entered the home of their victim through the roof and were said to have seized the mobile phones of other occupants of the building before escaping with their target.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the development and said the command had directed the anti-kidnapping squad to begin a rescue operation and to arrest the kidnappers.
