Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has declared that he had no candidate in the race for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Tambuwal made the remark when one of the aspirants, Yakubu Dogara and some members of the House of Representatives paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Sokoto.
Tambuwal underscored the need for the two leading aspirants to avoid anything that would promote hatred among members of the House, stressing that he was not behind any candidate for the position.
“Yesterday the other candidate Gbajabiamila was here asking me to publicly declare my support to his aspiration which I declined. We will make sure that the next Speaker emerges through a free and fair process,” Tambuwal stressed.
He also advised the two leading aspirants, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and Femi Gbajabiamila, to be pragmatic and conduct issues-based campaigns, even as he pledged to work with other members to reduce the rancour.
The governor emphasised that efforts should be made to reduce the current tension generated by the political tussle, as it was already high.
According to him, the House of Representatives should be made more stable to build on the legacies of the Seventh Assembly.
